California DUI Schools
A person who is convicted of DUI is subject to harsh legal consequences, such as jail time, fines, license suspension, DUI School, and/or probation. Sentences can be enhanced if the driver refused to take the BAC test, had a BAC result of 0.20% or higher, had a minor under age 14 in the vehicle, or had prior DUI convictions.

Mandatory DUI School attendance can be ordered by both the court and the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Drivers who wish to have their suspended licenses reinstated must attend DUI School. The required attendance time varies in each case and can be lengthened if the person has prior DUI offenses on their record within a 10 year period. In California, participation in DUI school can last anywhere from 12 weeks to 30 months. DUI School is mandatory for convicted DUI offenders, but an experienced San Francisco DUI attorney may be able to reduce or eliminate attendance through negotiation.
What is DUI School?
DUI School is a service that is usually provided by a state sponsored agency. In most states, DUI School is free. At DUI School, convicted DUI offenders are educated about the effects of drinking and driving. DUI School focuses on public safety and informs participants of their responsibilities as drivers.
DUI School educates convicted offenders about drug and alcohol abuse and misuse. Through participation, convicted DUI offenders can learn if they have a problem with alcoholism and obtain resources. DUI School can also provide treatment options for people who are suffering with a drug or alcohol problem.
If a person does not complete DUI School, they may have their license permanently suspended.
